Athens seaside
Delta Falirou
Delta Falirou is the area where Syngrou Ave reaches the sea. We started at Niarchos Park, in Kallithea. It is inside Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) which also includes the Greek National Opera, the National Library of Greece, a canal and ice skating ring during the winter. There are also restaurants and coffee shops. Niarchos was a shipping tycoon, Onassis's co-brother in law. SNFCC is another place where Athenians like to spend their leisure time during the weekends. During summer time, they go on week nights as well. Since it was a weekday, it was not very crowded. There are some photos from SNFCC in Kallithea-Petralona.
Nea Smyrni is a medium high income area on the other side of Syngrou Avenue. According to Guardian it is in the top ten best neighborhoods in Europe. Opinions differ regarding the nicest square in Athens and Greece overall. The one in Nea Smyrni is included in one of the nicest. It has trees, water fountains, coffee shops, restaurants, other shops. The park is very close by, a continuation of the square.
Delta Waterfront
Kallithea Delta Marina is next to Niarchos park. It was used during the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, for Taekwondo and Beach volley. Taekwondo building became an exhibition center but Beach Volley facilities were abandoned. Castella Hill in Pireaus can be seen in the distance.
Flisvos Marina is next to Kallithea Marina. It has coffee shops, restaurants and other shops. Next to it is Flisvos Park. Towards Pireaus, on a northwestern direction in Neo Faliro, is Park of Peace and Friendship. This is not in Delta area but close to it. Next to Park of Peace and Friendshop is Microlimano, below Castella Hill. It has restaurants, coffee shops, bars.
Pireaus
A liitle further from Microlimano is Votsalakia beach. Many people go there for a swim, although some considered it to be not very clean because Pireaus port is close to it. It has coffee shops, basketball, volleyball, soccer courts, swinning pool, summer movie theater, cafeterias, reastaurants. Marina Zeas is next to Votsalakia beach. Piraiki starts after Marina Zeas. A certain part of Piraiki has many restaurants with sea food, right next to the seashore.
Notia
Notia means Southern. After Flisvos park, on the seashore with a southeastern direction, is Edem beach in Palaio Faliro. Many people go there to swim. There are some cafe-bar-restaurants on the beach. Next to Edem is Alimos Marina and afterwards a pedestrian street with a park and cafe-bar-restaurants, followed by Alimos beach. Hellinikon is afterwards, where the former Hellinikon International Airport used to be.
Hellinikon Metropolitan Park is an urban development under construction and that is why it is not shown in the video. It will include park, luxury homes, hotels, casino, marina, shops, offices. Where Hellinikon Metropolitan Park ends, Glyfada Beach starts that includes Marinas and has cafes, bars, reastaurants.
Glyfada is a high income residential area in the Southern suburbs that also has lots of stores, restaurants, coffee shops, bars. In addition to the central area around Monastiraki, Kiffisia and Glyfada are probably the two most popular areas where lots of people gather to shop, drink coffee, eat, take a stroll etc.
